You may wish to start with this book. It discusses the Hale Telescope at Palomar:
Florence, Ronald. The Perfect Machine: Building the Palomar Telescope. New York: HarperCollins, 1994. 451 pp.

Copies are still available on the internet (search Amazon, Barnes & Noble, for example).

Or you may borrow a copy -- ask your local library to search for a copy for you. WorldCat gives many library locations worldwide: http://www.worldcat.org/title/perfect-machine-building-the-
palomar-telescope/oclc/59273068&referer=brief_results

I added a long list of books, articles, and other materials that are available in The Rakow Research Library. It also includes websites.

Please contact your local library if you wish to obtain copies of library items. The Rakow Research Library is a member of the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC). Your library can contact us through OCLC or they may send an Interlibrary Loan form to us through e-mail, mail or fax. You may request up to 10 items at a time. We send photocopies of articles and will also loan books if a second copy is available in the library collection. Books are loaned for four week periods. Contact ill@cmog.org for further information.

Please let me know if you have additional questions.
