In brief, the Glass Art Society was formed by glassblowers through the NCECA (National Council on Education in the Ceramic Arts) in 1971 right after the NCECA conference in Toronto that year. The first meeting was at Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina. The founders were Fritz Dreisbach, Mark Peiser and William Bernstein. Peiser was the first chairman. I have a great chronology of this society published in the 1995 Glass Art Society Journal that I'd be happy to photocopy and fax or mail to you if you'd like to see it. Or you can let me know if there is something particular in the history of the Society that you'd like me to look at. We do have there archives here in the library. If you are interested in the chronology, let me know so I can send you more information.
