We have a handful of Roman sports cups that show scenes of charioteers, gladiators and boxers competing. Many times the athletes depicted are named. Could this be what you are remembering? I'd be happy to photocopy the pictures we have of our objects and a description of the sports cups. This information is available in David Whitehouse's book Roman Glass in the Corning Museum of Glass. There is a book, written in French, that may be of interest as well: Sennequier, G. Les Verres romains a scenes de spectacles trouves en france. Rouen: Association Francaise pour l'Archeologie du Verre, 1998.

I am attaching some bibliographies which may also be of interest to you.
