When scientists talk about glass not being a solid, it is referring to its chemical structure. Once a window has ben made, the glass does not "flow", or "settle to the bottom".   Our library offers a bibliography, "Flowing Glass",  at the end of which is a summary which will answer your question.   Our library participates in interlibrary loan; should your library not have materials on the bibliography, please ask your librarian to contact us regarding their availablility.  We can often provide books, and photocopies of articles.
