You are welcome to come to Corning and use the resources of the Rakow Research Library. We encourage you to call ahead to let us know when you plan to visit and remind us of your area of interest. While an appointment is not requirement for use of the library, it will help us to be better prepared to meet your research needs and to have preliminary materials ready upon your arrival. The library is open from 9:00 to 5:00 Monday to Friday.
I have attached a list of some of our trade catalogs and other resources relating to railroad lanterns and signals. You may wish to browse the library collections using the "Rakow Library Catalog" and "Article Index" databases at http://rakow.cmog.org
I am also sending a list of our trade journals and (separately) a list of trade journals relating to lighting glassware - they may or may not cover railroad lighting; and they may not be available in our library so we list libraries that have holdings.
For additional information about Corning Glass Works and their railroad lanterns, I suggest you contact Michelle Cotton at the Department of Archives and Records, Corning Inc.: CottonML@corning.com
They have extensive materials relating to company history.
The Rakow Library has technical information about the properties of glass and optics as well, if that is of interest to you.
