Thank you for your request about bittters bottles history. I attached a bibliography of some of the resources we have relating to bitters bottles. Your photo has been lost, but I believe it was of a Hostetter's Stomach Bitters bottle.
Unfortunately, our bitters bottle books are not available online from our library (they are still under copyright and cannot be scanned).
Some of the materials will be available to you via Interlibrary Loan.
If you wish to obtain copies of library items, please contact your local library. The Rakow Research Library is a member of the Online Computer Library Center (OCLC). Your library can contact us through OCLC or they may send an Interlibrary Loan form to us by e-mail. We send copies of articles and will also loan certain books if a second copy is available in the library collection. Books are loaned for a four week period. For further information, please see our web page: http://www.cmog.org/research/library/about/interlibrary-loan.
We do have the following: Odell, John. Digger Odell's official Antique bottle and glass collector magazine price guide. Volume 2, Bitters. It looks like we have two copies and will be able to loan one to you. (I also scanned a couple pages relating to Hostetter's Stomach Bitters) Ours is the 1998 edition. I understand there is a newer 2010 edition that is not yet in our collection.
Another excellent resource is: Ring, Carlyn. Bitters bottles. Downieville, Calif.: W. C. Ham, 1998. 617 p. (I scanned several pages about Hostetter for you).
Please let me know if I can help you again.
