Thank you for your question about a calculation which shows glass trying to become 6mm thick when heated enough to flow. The Rakow Library has a number of general books on scientific aspects of the glassy state and on properties of glasses, but I was unable to find anything addressing this specific calculation. As you indicate, the calculation would likely involve several variables including viscosity, surface tension, density of the glass, glass composition.

You might try contacting institutions that focus specifically on the science of glass, such as:

The Glass Department of Alfred University, in Alfred, NY. http://engineering.alfred.edu/undergrad/ges/

The American Ceramic Society (Glass Division) in Columbus, Ohio; http://ceramics.org/about/contact-us

The Society of Glass Technology, in Sheffield, U.K.;  http://www.sgt.org/

Thank you for writing, I hope one of these leads helps you find the calculation you are looking for.

Best,
