Biography

The glass artist Xavier Melendez was born in Torreon, Coahuila, Mexico, August 9, 1937. He received his BA in Architecture in 1962 from the Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey, where he later taught for more than five years. He began his career as an industrial designer in 1969 and has presented more than 60 exhibitions, both solo and group shows, in Mexico and elsewhere.

"The Glass Art Society Journal" (1992) contains an essay by Melendez entitled "Cultural Identity," which you may find of interest. The March-May 1999 issue of "Vidrio" contains a brief biographical sketch.
