An initial search led me to the sites of the V&A’s and the Musée d'Orsay. The V&A lists his birth year as 1848 (no death year), and the Musée d'Orsay lists 1848-1924. An 1891 electoral roll from Ancestry.com confirms his birth date as July 22, 1848. No luck on a death notice/certificate in Ancestry. His French Wiki page lists 1848-1924, and cites Au creux de la main : la médaille en France au XIXe et XXe siècle.
