What is the process for requesting images?
Answer
To obtain a digital image of an item from the Museum's glass collection, from the Rakow Library collection, or of the Museum's site and/or events, please submit a request via the Rights and Reproductions Request form on the right side of this page.
Rights and Reproductions staff need some information to begin processing your request.
- Name, email, state/province and country from where you are making the request.
- Deadline. We need to know by what date you need the images.
- Commercial or non-commercial use. We ask this to determine whether there will be any fees for images or licensing.
- Proposed use. This information helps Rights and Reproductions staff know what size image file to send and answer copyright-related questions.
- Accession and BIB Numbers. Rights and Reproductions staff use these to track down the images and permissions information in the Museum's databases.
The Accession Number (looks like: 79.1.1) is how we identify objects in the glass collection. It appears in the object information on the Museum's online collection browser.
The Rakow Library BIB ID number (looks like: BIB ID 104387) can be found as the second to last entry in the "Details" of an item's online library catalog record.
If you are looking for an image of the Museum site or a program or event, we need a link to where you saw the image or a detailed description.
Once you've provided the required information required on the form, Rights and Reproductions staff will check if an image approved by the Photography Department for your requested use is available. We will also investigate whether there are restrictions on sharing that image or if you need to seek permissions from a copyright holder before using them.
Once Rights and Reproductions staff have determined image availability and rights status, we will inform you whether new photography or digitization is required. And we will let you know the type of license under which the image will be shared. After any new imaging is complete and any required signatures are obtained, the image file will be shared.
