Why do I need to fill out the form? Can't I just download the images from www.cmog.org?
Answer
The images on the Museum's website, especially in its collection browser, are provided for research purposes.
Though the image may look OK to you, it may not look OK to us. The Museum reserves its right to control how its collections are presented to the world, so not all the images that appear on the website are approved for reproduction. And not all the images you find on our website are ours -- sometimes we have permission from other organizations or people to use them.
Plus, the images that are on our webpage can't be downloaded at a high enough resolution for printing. So if your project will appear in print, the Museum's Rights and Reproductions department can provide you with image files that will make your work look its best.
We also need to check the copyright status for you. Many of the objects pictured on our website are under copyright protection. It goes against copyright law to reproduce images of those objects without the artist's or copyright holder's permission. Rights and Reproductions is here to find out if you need permission or not.
